[In the Black Hills, south of Custer, South Dakota, 1958]

This scene unfolded before my eyes in the summer of 1958, as we were making our way from Mountain View, California to Abington, Pennsylvania. Dad was a naval officer, so moving every two years was nothing new.

I give my parents all the credit in the world. They knew that moving was tough on my sisters and me (more on them, than on me). So, they always tried to make every move seem like vacation. They knew what they were doing.

When we got to the Black Hills, we were already a few days out of Yellowstone (please see my previous upload, 'Homeward Bound"), and I think I already knew that I would be spending a lot of time out west in future years, the Lord willing. That youngster in the lower left is obviously enjoying the view. Those were the days!

Here, you also see several calves, their coats gradually turning brown. They are packing on weight. Winter in the Black Hills is harsh.

As always, thanks for stopping by!

A standout in both narrative and image! You truly must put all of this in a book to be published!
