(On the Crow Indian Reservation, next to the Little Bighorn National Battlefield, near Hardin, Montana, June 14, 2016)

The Little Bighorn Battlefield ("Custer's Last Stand") is lonely and forlorn. Perhaps this is as it should be: Thoughtful reflection comes easy here.

On this particular day, I was driving the length of the "auto" tour and encountered a small cluster of horses. I pulled over and sat there for fifteen minutes.

I thought about the battle that was fought here, and the pivotal role played by horses in that battle. I looked at these handsome animals, and wondered whether their ancestors were on the battlefield that fateful day.

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Excellent narrative and image of the horses and I like also that you included the rear view mirror showing the landscape..
