Bees, Butterflies and Asters

Bee after rain on Aster

Several years ago our late friend Florence shared with us some Aster seeds from her garden ...Although she passed away a few years ago, we see the Asters every Autumn. Flowers grow on the earth as a reminder of those who have gone on before us who left the seeds of friendship behind to remember them by...

When the Asters first began to bud this fall with just a few flowers...It started out slowly with only one bumble bee who came to pollinate in rainy weather, but when more flowers opened more bees and butterflies arrived ( of which we are seeing .mostly the Painted Lady species with a few Monarchs.) .I thought it would be the end of the Asters when we had a heavy rain storm with hail stones...After my husband tied the stems up and got them off the ground the Asters revived to grow stronger.

A remarkable series of photos, so timely too as the asters are truly the flowers of autumn. Perfect timing, gorgeous tones and detail and an excellent narrative! Gets my vote!!

Thank you very much Heather for nominating my photo essay. It
is truly appreciated..I look forward to seeing the Asters every fall.
Today the Asters looked drenched and cold from yesterdays rain
and they badly need the warmth of sunshine. I am glad that I shot the pictures that I did between so many rainy days!:-).

Thank you for the comments and to Saroj for nominating my photo essay on Oct. 22, 2019. It is very much appreciated! The Asters I think are done for now after so many cold rainy days and of course we are not seeing the bees and butterflies anymore either....but I am thankful that I shot the pictures that I did when the Asters were looking their best.

Thank you Saroj and others for your congratulations...I am very
happy that I shot the pictures that I did when the Asters looked their best and the butterflies and bees came around as it has been a cold rainy Autumn since then and the Aster season is over now.
